I’m Coming Virginia, Duck Baker’s latest release, is now available on CD.
It was released earlier this year as a digital download, but it has taken some time to organize the CD production in these pandemic-challenged times.
The focus of this collection is swing jazz tunes, with a bit of ragtime, blues and gospel thrown in, and it should appeal to listeners who particularly like the hard-driving fingerpicking style heard on Baker’s early records. Half of the material is from live recordings, spread out over the course of more than 30 years, but there are also several unissued tracks from studio sessions, and three that were issued on anthologies or other records that were not Duck Baker solo projects. The 17 previously unissued tracks include five that Baker never recorded elsewhere, and two others he never recorded as solos.
