There are two new Duck Baker records available in the website store, both available as CDs and also as MP3 downloads.

The first, on Baker’s own Fulica label, is There’s No Time Like The Past, a new collection of previously unissued recordings by this fingerstyle guitar master. The music is drawn from a variety of sources, including demo sessions, tunes that wouldn’t fit on releases for which they were recorded, a live track, a radio broadcast, and a couple of home recordings. The tunes were recorded over a nearly 30-year span, but in a way represent a “new” Duck Baker record for fingerstyle guitar fans, since only four of them ever came out before as solos. Seven have never appeared on any Duck Baker recording, while another seven were only recorded in duo or trio settings. The focus is primarily on original compositions, though Baker’s stylistic range is on display, as he covers everything from traditional folk and gospel to modern jazz tunes.

There is also a PDF book of music/tablature transcriptions that includes all but one of the arrangements, available either separately or as a package with either the CD or digital release.

We also now have copies of Baker’s recent release on the iconic ESP-Disk label, Breakdown Lane. This one actually appeared a couple of months ago but the shipment from the US was delayed. For fans who like Baker’s approach to free jazz and free improvisation this one is a must, bringing together solo tracks recorded between 1976 and 1998, as well as two recently unearthed duos with guitar maverick Eugene Chadbourne. Breakdown Lane has already earned rave reviews in the jazz press as a welcome addition to Baker’s catalog of free jazz records.
