“Sweet Lorraine” is a superior pop song from the late 1920’s, often associated with Nat King Cole, who scored one of his earliest and biggest hits with it in 1940. But it was already a jazz standard by then, having been previously waxed by such stalwarts as Jimmy Noone, Teddy Wilson, and Sidney Bechet, among others. The arrangement here owes a bit to John Mehegan’s interpretation of the progression.
